It has been mentioned, but the toxicity and abuse towards the sub, within the sub, and towards other subs has been too high. We as moderators have our share of blame in this, but we want to stress that this kind of behavior is not acceptable and we are taking these measures primarily to avoid these things. We want /r/reddevils to be a place where anyone and everyone is welcome to discuss and enjoy the best club on earth without fear of abuse or ridicule.

Which leads us to 2 other small reminders. The report button is your friend, we are way more likely to find and remove and/or ban rule breaking comments if you report them. The downvote button is not a "I disagree or don't like your statement button", better discussion is generally had by using the upvote button more liberally and avoiding the downvote one whenever possible.

(After 5 league games) 21/22 is so far our 3rd best start to a season the last 2 decades!

(After 5 league games) 21/22 is so far our 3rd best start to a season the last 2 decades!

Our start in 2011/2012 was the best, with 15 points and a goal difference of 17.We had the same amount of points (13) and a few more goals in Mourinho’s second season (2017/2018), but we are on equal points/goal difference as we were in 2005/2006 under sir Alex.

Great start to the season!

Some little observations from the game against West Ham

  1. Greenwood’s movement was brilliant. You could see how he was doing little body feints, short bursts of pace in and around their defensive lines to unsettle their defensive shape. I take that this is him learning from the elite movement of Cavani and Ronaldo.
  2. Matic coming on even for a few minutes showed how important he is against teams that play compact. We need a player of his mould that can thread balls through defensive lines, there wasn’t a lot of that with Fred and McSauce today.
  3. This is yet another game where we can notice a clear defensive instability, especially on counters. Maguire and AWB have not reached the form they towards the end of last season. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later, we need to stop conceding and dominate games for the full 90 minutes both offensively (which I think we have shown) and defensively to be really considered for honours this season.
  4. AWB had another game where he was quite sharp offensively. His offensive game has come a long way.
  5. We had 12 corners and created one real chance from them. We need to be doing better from set pieces in general.
  6. Ronaldo should’ve had his first hat trick (not counting the penalties)
  7. The scuffle between Soucek and AWB should’ve been a penalty (change my mind?)
  8. We were unlucky not to get the penalty decisions our way
  9. Lingard is a real asset to this team and I’m very glad we have kept him.

Match Thread – Manchester United vs West Ham

Didn’t see a match thread so I thought I’d post one. Will keep it updated as the game progresses.

4’- Pogba is down following a rash tackle from Zouma. Not intentional, shouldn’t be a yellow either. He’s come back on, limping but should be fine.

14’- we’ve had around 70% of possession so far, and have been pretty convincing in keeping the ball around our attacking third.

Bruno goes down after a coming together with Coufal but there’s nothing in it and play resumes.

16’- Maguire gets caught out dribbling in the corner and West Ham snatch at the chance, getting a shot off that’s blocked by Varane.

21’- Bowen gets off a good shot, saved by De Gea, following a decent attacking play from West Ham. Rebound is hit over the bar by Soucek.

23’- Ronaldo with what I think is our first shot of the game, but it’s hit straight at Fabianski.

27’- Shaw’s corner comes out to Fernandes who hits it on the half volley, hitting the post. West Ham clear but we maintain possession.

Shaw hits a solid low drive but it’s again hit at Fabianski. Replays show that Fernandes’ shot was just saved by the keeper.

29’- Shaw gets a bit too physical with Coufal and concedes a free kick on halfway.

29’- 1-0 West Ham! Benrahma’s shot is deflected off Varane and into the back of the net. Not sure if it’s going down as an OG. The bubbles fly through the air for the first time this match.

32’- great ball by McTominay finds Ronaldo who is dispossessed. Possession retained and goes out for a corner after a fierce Wan-Bissaka drive.

34’- SIUUUUUUU! Ronaldo scores after a great cross from Bruno, Fabianski saves but he hits in the rebound! 1-1!

VAR determines Ronnie is onside!

41’- Cresswell finds space on the left and hits a good cross to Vlasic at the near post, but he can’t keep it down.

43’- Ref gives a rather dodgy free kick in their half off of a nothing challenge from Fred.

45+1’- our spell of possession from corners leads nowhere, ball goes down to West Ham in the attack but AWB clears and the move dies off.

Half Time! We go in at the break all square, 1-1 from a Benrahma’s deflected shot and a Ronaldo strike.

[Pre Match Quotes] Solskjaer: “At Man United, if you lose a game it is a crisis. I don’t pay too much attention to that. We have started the season well. Just imagine what it would be like if we came here with six points (instead of 10)!” #MUFC

Pogba on his own form: “This is not important. What is important is the consistency of the team. We have to keep this up. Assists come, the team performance helps me have the assists. I want to carry on, giving my best for the team and winning games." #MUFC

Pogba on Young Boys loss: “There is only one way to come back, hopefully today is to get a win. That is the past, we know the mistakes we did and the performance and we want to bounce back today." #MUFC

EDIT: More Quotes

Solskjær: “He’s [McTominay] always been a physical monster and specimen. He’s fit and of course we want to get him going as quick as we can. He’s missed a bit of football but the operation was needed and why not put him back in?” [MUTV]

Solskjær: “I don’t think it’s [playing in Europe mid-week] a problem this early on in this season to recover. Of course it’s a new experience for them [West Ham], we had two more extra days so we are very well prepared of course.” [MUTV]
